Learning Disabilities Association Of Red Deer
Who and Where? The Learning Disabilities Association of Red Deer has worked tirelessly since 1989, to provide services and support for persons with learning disabilities and to help raise awareness of learning disabilities – how they affect the individual, families and friends, and our communities.
We serve Central Alberta. We have resources and referrals, and have created events or programs, in many Central Alberta communities, including: Red Deer, Lacombe, Rocky Mountain House, Stettler, and other communities. Looking for help or assistance? Reach out and contact us. THINK SOCIAL: We will be offering our Think Social Program for children ages 7-9 and 10-12 this February. This 8-week program covers topics ranging from being part of a group, whole body listening, self-awareness and self-monitoring, observing others, communicating with others, teasing and bullying and dealing with anger and frustration.
ULTIMATE FRISBEE: Physical activity through positive social interaction will be the focus of our Ultimate Frisbee program. Skill acquisition, physical fitness and social competencies will be supported in a 60 minute program which will run 8 consecutive weeks once a week. As ‘Ultimate’ incorporates a self-refereeing component, mature responses to competitive situations will be encouraged. Distinguishing itself from other sports, Ultimate’s ‘Spirit of the Game’ emphasizes the joy of play, mutual respect, and fair behaviour over the ‘win at all cost attitude’.
